Seattle Mariners and Star Julio Rodríguez have signed a long-term extension contract that could be one of the largest contracts in the History of MLB.
This deal which begins this season guarantees Julio $210 Millions over the next 12 years and contains options for both the player and the club that can open the possibility of further extending the length of the contract and pushing the total value as high as $470Millions ok that’s a lot of money.
According to my research guarantee of at least $210 million makes Julio Rodríguez’s extension contract the largest contract ever for a player with service time less than two years in the major league.
This contract is said to be one of the most complex contracts agreed upon in the History of MLB.
After the seventh year of the contract (2028), the Seattle Mariners must decide whether to re-extend Julio Rodríguez for either eight or ten years, with the size and value of that long-term club option but it depends on how Julio Rodríguez finishes in MVP voting.
If Julio Rodríguez can pass the highest threshold and the Mariners exercise their club option, the contract would be around $470Million in value and the contract would be for around 18 years.
In the past 108 games for Mariners this season, Rodríguez has authored a slash line of .269/.328/.471 with 20 home runs and 23 stolen bases. That Perfect combination of power and speed helped Rodríguez to become just the 12th rookie ever to achieve a 20-20 season.
Before the contract extension was finalized, Rodríguez would have been slated for free agency after the 2027 season. Rodríguez originally signed with the Seattle Mariners in 2017 as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic.
Rodríguez thrived in the Mariners’ system and improved quickly. Before being promoted to Seattle, Rodríguez had a .955 OPS across various parts of three seasons despite being much younger than his other group members.
But what do you as an MLB Fan think of Julio Rodríguez?
